Villanova's College of Engineering offers a full-time academic program
leading to a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree. The Bachelor
of Science in Mechanical Engineering is accredited by the EAC Commission of
ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, telephone: (410)
347-7700.
The undergraduate program of study in Mechanical Engineering begins after
completion of the common Freshman year. It continues with foundation courses in
Mathematics, Engineering Sciences, and Mechanical Engineering Analysis and
Design.
Throughout the curriculum the technical courses are balanced by a careful
selection of humanities and religious studies courses to ensure that the effects
of technology on society are given due consideration in design.
Study Abroad
The ME Department fully supports the component of the
University that encourages study abroad "to add its influence to
the search for world peace and justice by means of its academic programs and
the pastoral ministry it provides for the members of the community." A student interested in study abroad should
notify their academic advisor of their plans as soon as possible. The Department suggests that this study, if
pursued, be undertaken ideally in the first semester of the junior year. The three-semester capstone design sequence,
which is taken in the final semesters of the program and strongly emphasizes
design team activities, normally precludes study abroad during this
period.
