Any full-time student with a minimum GPA of 3.25 has the option of pursuing a
Five-Year BS/MS Program that allows the students to obtain a dual Bachelor/Master degree in a five-year
time period.
- All Five-Year BS/MS Program students will automatically be considered for tuition
fellowships for the fifth year. A limited number of fellowships are
available. Fellowship decisions will be made during the spring semester of
the senior year.
- A student accepted into the Five-Year BS/MS Program is expected to finish the program without
any interruption.
Tuition Fellowship
- Students who are granted a tuition fellowship are required to take a
summer course (3 credits) immediately following their senior year.
- Students who are granted a tuition fellowship are expected to take six
courses during the fifth year, three courses per semester in each of the
fall and spring semesters. A total of ten graduate courses should be
completed by the end of the spring semester.
- All students who receive a tuition fellowship are expected to work for
the department for 10 hours/week during the fifth year. Usually, students
will teach in the department's laboratory courses or work as a grader for an
assigned professor.
Students who do not receive a tuition fellowship are very strongly
encouraged to follow the same schedule as those receiving tuition
fellowships.
Discontinue Five-Year BS/MS Program
If after finishing the fall semester of their senior year, a student
decides to discontinue the Five-Year BS/MS Program for a compelling reason, M.E. 7000 will be
counted as one of their senior elective courses toward their B.S. degree.
The students will be removed from the Five-Year BS/MS Program and be treated as a regular
undergraduate student. Their following spring course schedule has to follow
the standard undergraduate procedures.
If, after finishing the spring semester of senior year, a student
decides to discontinue the Five-Year BS/MS Program for a compelling reason, the two graduate
courses taken in the spring semester will be counted toward their B.S.
degree.
