Villanova's Mechanical Engineering Department offers a full-time
academic program leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical
Engineering degree. The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is
accredited by the EAC Commission
of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, telephone:
(410) 347-7700.
The undergraduate program of study in Mechanical Engineering begins
after completion of the common freshman year in the College of
Engineering at Villanova. It continues with foundation courses in
Mathematics, Engineering Sciences, and Mechanical Engineering Analysis
and Design. We are committed to small-sized classes taught by professors
and focused on the student — a hallmark of a Villanova education. Our
curriculum provides maximum flexibility to the students, which we
believe is necessary to position our graduates well in an increasingly
interdisciplinary workplace. At the same time, we at Villanova believe
in the education—not training—of a "whole-brained engineer"— an engineer
with a holistic approach completely aware of the social, ethical, and
global aspects of an engineering career. Such an approach does not
replace a strong fundamental scientific education and lifelong learning
skills which we continue to emphasize. This we believe is a unique
approach stemming from Villanova’s liberal arts foundation, perhaps
something that explains the overwhelming success of the Villanova
engineer.
Throughout the curriculum the technical courses are balanced by a
careful selection of humanities and religious studies courses to ensure
that the effects of technology on society are given due consideration in
design. |
