Villanova University traditionally emphasizes the undergraduate learning
experience, and therefore the College of Engineering encourages undergraduate
research opportunities. A large number of ME faculty host at least one
undergraduate researcher, and the university submits a call for proposals
annually for funded undergraduate research. The following is a list of “Villanova
Undergraduate Research Fellows” in the ME Department in 2009-2010:
William Albert and Anderson Lebbad,
“Unmanned Ground Vehicle as a Basis for Image Based Dynamic Modeling
Techniques,” advised by Dr. Garrett Clayton, Assistant Professor.
Kathleen Bommer, “A High-Speed Imaging
Study of Zebrafish Embryo Freezing,” advised by Dr. Jens Karlsson, Associate
Professor.
Kristopher Doll, “Finite Element Modeling
of Hydroxyapatite Composites for Bone Implants,” advised by Dr. Ani Ural,
Assistant Professor.
Jamie Fernandez, “Experiment on Natural
Convection from a Surface Mounted Heat Source in an Inclined Shallow Enclosure,”
advised by Dr. Alfonso Ortega, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research
and The James R. Birle Professor of Energy Technology.
Katharine Duggan, “Mechanotransduction
