| What are the average SAT scores
for an engineering major? The middle 50% of our current freshmen
scored between 650 and 720 on the math and between 570 and 640 on the verbal.
How much does it cost to attend Villanova as
an undergraduate engineering student?
Tuition and fees for all undergraduate
studies at Villanova is the same. This includes your laptop computer
and software.
Are interviews part of the admission process
for Engineering?
No, interviews are not part of the admission process but if you'd like to
speak to a representative from the College or specific department,
contact
the Dean's Office.
How do I find out if credit will be given for
Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes?
Our
College Policy for course credit is outlined in detail on this web site.
Keep in mind that your score reports must be sent to Villanova University
from the testing center, in order for you to receive any credit for which
you may qualify. On your AP grade report which you received in the
mail, Villanova University must appear as a score recipient. If you took
AP tests and Villanova is not listed, we will not receive your scores unless
you request it through the
AP Services web site.
Can I get credit for college courses I took
while I was in high school?
Please view the
College of Engineering Policy for all credits awarded for clarification
and details on obtaining credit, if allowed.
Can engineering students minor in something
outside of Engineering?
Engineering students
can choose from approximately 50 minors and concentrations offered throughout
the University and we encourage students to do so.
Can I get an undergraduate degree completely
online?
No. Distance Education is available for some engineering courses
but you cannot get a degree solely online. Distance Education is a
way to take courses but is not a program.
Is there a part-time undergraduate degree program?
No we do not offer a part-time undergraduate degree program.
You must apply to and be accepted into an undergraduate degree program to
major in Engineering.
Is tutoring available?
Free tutoring is provided
by upper class Engineering students and is available through the Dean
of Engineering office as well as the engineering honor societies.
What about computers?All freshman
Engineering students are
issued a laptop computer for use with the engineering curriculum. Computers
are updated after two years and are leased through the University. The College
also provides three computing labs, reserved exclusively for Engineering
student use, available on a 24/7 basis.
Is career guidance available to students?
Is career guidance available to students? Career guidance, placement
opportunities and other related programs, services and resources are
provided through both the College of Engineering’s
Professional Development Office, and the University’s
Career Services Office.
Do engineering students participate in athletics
and other organizations? While the Engineering curriculum is rigorous,
it is definitely possible to participate in varsity sports or extra-curricular
activities. Engineering students are integral members of the University
community and are involved in a range of activities, including athletics,
performing arts, ROTC, community service and many more. Approximately 5%
of Engineering students are on a varsity team, and many more participate
in intramural and club sports. Athletics works with students to ensure that
they fulfill curriculum requirements. Additionally, the Office of Academic
Support for Athletics works with student-athletes regarding NCAA eligibility
requirements, mentoring, tutoring, and study halls. The College of Engineering
and Academic Support work together to make sure students’ unique needs are
met.
Do Engineering students live with other Engineers?
Freshman residents are assigned roommates on the basis of gender, date of
admission deposit and, where possible, academic college and preferences
specified in a questionnaire accompanying the housing contract. In most
but not all cases, Engineering freshmen are housed with other Engineering
freshmen.
When do Engineering students declare their
majors?Freshmen are asked to
declare their major in late February of the spring term (prior to the
period when they must register for their fall term Sophomore year classes).
All Engineering students are enrolled in a
common first year
curriculum, with the exception of a second semester science requirement,
which is program dependent. By the time students declare a major, they will
have had an overview of all engineering disciplines and will have been able
to attend departmental information nights which are provided shortly before
the major selection period.
How easy is it for students to change their
major within Engineering?Freshmen may easily
change their majors since the class work required during the first year
is common to all Departments. Beginning with the Sophomore year, however,
the curricula of the various programs begin to differ significantly so that
change will most likely necessitate additional course work. Engineering
students who wish to change their major within the College of Engineering
must make this request in writing to the Dean of Engineering. Engineering
students who wish to change their major to an area outside of engineering
must apply for admission to the dean of the college offering that program.
Do Engineering students have the opportunity
to study abroad?Engineering students do have the opportunity to
study abroad, and to facilitate those opportunities, the
Office of International Studies offers
information sessions four days a week, twice a day, so there are plenty
of opportunities to get information about studying abroad. Students who
are interested in studying abroad should speak with their advisers as soon
as possible, to map out what courses they must take at Villanova, and what
courses they could take abroad.
What is the average class size for introduction
courses? The student-faculty ratio is 13:1, and the largest courses
are the freshmen lecture classes. In the Spring 2007 term, the average class
size of the freshman Engineering class is 29 students; the average size
of a Calculus 2 course is 24; and the average size of a Physics 1 course
is 18. All classes are taught by faculty members, not teaching assistants.
