The Office for University Information Technologies (UnIT)
provides computing, information, and networks services to the entire campus
community. A campus-wide network for data, voice, and video communication
provides phones and data connectivity for students, faculty, and staff. A
state-of-the-art digital phone system offers students, faculty, and staff
direct-dial lines, voice messaging, mail boxes, and call transfer. The data
network facilitate access to all on-campus computing resources, as well as
remote computing resources via the Internet. Broadband cable facilitates video
transmission to and from more than 100 classrooms for implementation of
multi-media teaching technology into the curriculum.

All central and distributed computers and about 8000+ workstations and other
devices are connected to the campus network, providing each user with access to
any computing resource. Every faculty and staff member has a PC or laptop
connected to the campus network. Phone, cable, and high speed data connectivity
is extended to all residence hall rooms. Citrix and Secure Remote Access Service
facilitate access to network and World Wide Web resources from off-campus
locations. UNIT also operates videoconferencing and multi-media facilities in
Tolentine.

The
TechZONE, located in Vasey Hall,
assists students with University-promoted laptop computers and other PCs.
Technical support is complemented by Web-based documentation. The use of the
University owned/managed computing, information, and network resources is
governed by policies included in the Student Handbook and accessible on the
University's Web site. In addition to the TechZONE, UNIT operates the University Help
Desk, located in Vasey Hall, and provides technical support and service from 8
a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and extended-hours support for critical systems until 2
a.m.
