FAQs for Transfer Students

Who is a transfer student? How does a transfer student differ from a part-time studies student or a continuing studies student?
If you are a student at another college or university and you wish to enroll full-time at Villanova University, you are eligible to apply as a transfer student.  A full-time student at Villanova assumes twelve credit hours per semester. If you are interested in taking fewer than twelve credits per semester, you should contact the Office of Part-Time Studies.  If you are interested in taking non-credit courses at Villanova, you should contact the Office of Continuing Studies.

Do I have to declare a major when I apply as a transfer student?
When you are applying as a transfer student to Villanova University, you must first decide the academic college to which you want to apply: Liberal Arts & Sciences, Villanova School of Business, Engineering, and Nursing. Once you have determined the academic college to which you intend to apply, you may need to choose a particular field within  that college.  The transfer application indicates the abbreviations you must use for specific disciplines within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and within the College of Engineering. Students applying to the Villanova School of Business declare their major once they are accepted and enrolled in the college. The College of Nursing for full-time undergraduate students is a BSN program.

Can I find out before I apply if my credits will transfer?
If you are admitted to the University, you will be notified at that time which of your credits will transfer. While you cannot know for certain at the time of application which of your credits will transfer, you can compare individual course descriptions in your present institution's course catalog with Villanova's on-line course catalog at www.catalog.villanova.edu.  By comparing these descriptions, you may be able to ascertain the similarity of the courses and whether your present courses seem to correspond with any Villanova courses. Ultimately, however, the decision rests with the academic colleges as they process your application.
