Admission Overview for Transfer Students

Villanova welcomes applications from students with previous college experience. Candidates are selected for admission on the basis of individual merit as determined by their complete college coursework and an evaluation by the Dean of Students at the last college attended. An applicant's high school record and class standing, standardized tests scores, extracurricular involvement, and essay are also considered.

  • Candidates for admission who wish to transfer to Villanova should have a completed transfer application submitted no later than June 1 for the Fall Term and November 1 for the Spring Term.

  • Villanova accepts a maximum of 60 transfer credits from other institutions.

  • In order to earn a degree from Villanova, at least half of all major courses and the final 30 credits of a degree program must be taken here at Villanova.

  • You must earn a grade of "C" or better at an accredited institution in order for appropriate credit to be given.

  • Admission criteria and prior course selections vary slightly depending upon the college and academic program to which you'll be applying.

  • A cumulative GPA of a 3.00/4.00 is recommended for students interested in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Villanova School of Business. Students interested in transferring into the College of Nursing and the College of Engineering must have maintained at least a 2.75/4.00 cumulative GPA.

  • Please visit the website of the Office of Residence Life for the transfer student housing policy.

  • The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences requires a minimum of two consecutive semesters at a previous institution prior to transfer to Villanova. Traditionally, transfer students in Arts and Sciences must complete three semesters at Villanova prior to participating in an overseas program and have earned a minimum 2.75 Villanova GPA in order to qualify.
