Drop / Add / Withdrawal

Course Drop / Add

A student may drop and/or add courses during the first five (5) class days of a semester without incurring academic penalty or affecting the student's official transcript. After this drop/add period, a student must seek departmental approval for dropping or adding courses. You may drop/add on-line here but only with an approval code from your academic advisor and only during the drop/add period, which ends this semester.

Course Withdrawal

A student may withdraw from a course any time until the official deadline date. There is no academic penalty for a withdrawal, but the student will receive a grade of WX for that course on his or her official transcript. A student seeking course withdrawal after this time must petition the dean of his or her college. Unauthorized withdrawals lead to a grade of Y, which is counted as an F in the Grade Point Average.

University Withdrawal

Official withdrawal from Villanova University itself must be authorized by the dean of the student's college. A student must submit a formal letter (or the appropriate college form) to the dean and participate in an interview. The letter of withdrawal may be countersigned and/or submitted by the student's parents or legal guardian. Applications for withdrawal usually must be submitted by the end of the fourth academic week.
