The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) determines the eligibility to
receive educational assistance benefits for students. See instructions on
How to Apply for VA benefits (below),
if this is the first time you will be utilizing VA benefits at Villanova
University.
To check on the status of your application for benefits, time remaining for
benefits, or any other general benefits questions, please contact the Veteran’s
Affairs Office of the Philadelphia Education Department at 1-888-GI-BILL-1
(1-888-442-4551).
Service members
wishing to transfer their unused Post 9/11 GI Bill education benefits to their
children or spouses: please see the Department of Defense (DOD) website on how
to apply for the Transferability of Education Benefits under
the Post-9/11 GI Bill (TEB) before applying for Veteran’s Benefits. DVA does not determine eligibility for TEB. More information is

Benefits depend on your
student status: full time, part time, or less than part time. Veterans’ benefits
and certifications are processed by the Office of the Registrar, Law School
Registrar and Office of Continuing Studies.
Instructions for
Qualifying Veterans Continuing VA benefits each
term:
If you have not yet applied for Veteran's Benefits, please see the
instructions on
How to Apply for VA Benefits (below). Once
the application process is complete, Veteran students continuing their benefits
must keep a Villanova VA Certifying Official informed of their academic progress
while utilizing VA benefits.
Villanova University
requests that all returning Villanova University Veteran students submit the Villanova
University
Enrollment Verification Form for each term they are
enrolled/registered. It is the student's responsibility to notify the
Registrar’s Office of any change in the number of credits for which they
originally register. They must also notify the Registrar’s Office if they
withdraw from the program.

How to Apply for VA Benefits with the
Department of Veteran's Affairs:
Students applying for VA benefits for the first time at Villanova, will fall
into one of two categories: A)
Initiating VA benefits for the first time OR B) Resuming VA Benefits. The
procedures to apply for these benefits through Veteran’s Affairs differs as
follows:

A. Initiating VA benefits for the first time Villanova University students who are eligible for and have never utilized their educational benefits will need to
submit one of the following forms:
- Veterans
VA Form 22-1990: Application for VA Education Benefits
- Survivors and Dependents of Veterans
VA Form 22-5490:
Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Education Benefits
- Students approved for Transfer of Education
Benefits (TEB)
under the post 9/11-GI Bill VA Form 22-1990e

B. Resuming VA benefits Villanova University students that have
previously used their benefits at another institution or used their benefits at
Villanova for a different program of study, will need to submit one of the
following forms to the Villanova University Certifying Official who will in turn
notify the VA of the change in place of training.

These application forms may be submitted on line at
vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp.
The signature page at the
end of the application needs to be mailed to the following address above when submitted
electronically:

Students can also obtain these forms on line at the
Department of Veterans’ Affairs website.
To download the forms, click on “Education forms” on the left-hand side, and
then scroll down to the appropriate form. A copy should be made and
the original forms should be mailed to the address provided above.
Signed copies of the completed application forms or signature pages should be
forwarded to the Villanova University VA Certifying Official at the following

All students will
need to furnish a copy of their Certification of Eligibility or Benefits Award
Letter upon receipt from
VA. Non-active duty students will also need to
furnish a copy of their DD-214 discharge paperwork. Copies of all paperwork should be forwarded to the Villanova University
