Service Units

Following are brief descriptions of what each unit does. Click the links to go to that section:

Work Control Center

The Work Control Center is the communications hub for the Facilities Maintenance Services, handling well over 10,000 requests for service per year and receiving all electronic mail messages sent to facilities for maintenance services. If you require immediate assistance or have an, during normal business hours (7:30 am through 4:00 pm M-F), please call Elizabeth DiRita at our Work Control Center at 610-519-4420.

After hours and weekend requests, please contact the Department of Public Safety at 610-519-6979. The Public Safety dispatcher will contact the facilities maintenance person on duty and dispatch the work request. Please be patient as we have only one duty person to attend to your request after hours and weekends. Emergencies after hours or on weekends please call: Public Safety Emergency number 610-519-4444.

To request information or non-emergency services, we ask that you use our online Service Request System. Additional questions and information may be directed to our Work Control Center during normal business hours (7:30 am through 4:00 pm M-F).

General Maintenance

The General Maintenance Shop is responsible for the routine general maintenance of the all buildings dormitories, and systems on campus. The general maintenance program provides 24 hour continuous service 365 days a year for the Villanova community.

Paint Shop

The Paint Shop is responsible for regular and scheduled painting or specially requested jobs and projects involving dry walling, texturing, refinishing and other miscellaneous services. This shop is also responsible for providing authorized signage for traffic control, events and special requirements to help make the campus safe, understandable and welcoming.

HVAC Shop

The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Shop (HVAC) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all building heating and cooling systems. They provide for the routine inspection, care, and lubrication of all the HVAC equipment on campus. They also provide basic refrigeration service for dinning services. Building Automation and Controls (BAC) is responsible for the operation, calibration and maintenance of temperature controls for room comfort and special cooling systems.

Plumbing Shop

The Plumbing Shop is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all the domestic plumbing and piping systems on campus. Routine, planned, and specialty services are available by request. Emergency service needs are addressed immediately, as they become known to us. If you want to make service request to this area, please use our Service Request System. Electrical Shop

The Electric Shop is responsible for the installation, repair, tie in and maintenance of all University electrical systems. These include the high voltage distribution system, building lighting and electrical systems, emergency, and fire safety systems, fire and security alarms and other electrical systems and equipment. Lock Shop

The Lock Shop combinates installs repairs and maintains locks for all University buildings. They also make keys in accordance with the University key policy. They repair panic and automatic door hardware The Lock Shop will rekey and change tumblers (when locks are functionally sound), change safe combinations and make additional keys for a fee. The President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, Departments Heads/Chairs, or their designees are authorized to request the issuance of keys to individuals within their respective areas. Carpentry Shop

The Carpenter Shop is responsible for routine or specially requested carpentry jobs and projects, such as wall partitions, shelving, locks, doors and frames, flooring. If you want to make a new request to this service area, please use our Service Request System. Steam Plant

The Steam Plant generates and provides steam to the campus which is used for heating air conditioning hot water and cooking. Steam Plant operate rations continue around the clock and is distributed throughout the campus Our supervisor for Steam Plant is: Tim Rutledge, Chief Engineer.

Special Events

The special events team is here to assist you with planning and implementation of your special event(s). If you are thinking of holding any type of special event from one table and chair to a gala event, we are here to help. The following are just some of the items we can provide:

  • Coordination of rental equipment such as tents, tables and chairs
  • Public address systems
  • Podiums
  • Set up and tear down of equipment
  • Platform risers 8” and 12”
  • Recycling and trash containers
  • Barbeque grills

Maintenance Storeroom

The Maintenance Storeroom is an auxiliary enterprise that is responsible for the warehousing of materials, parts and supplies required by Facilities Maintenance Services shops. They are also primarily responsible for the procurement of stocked and special order materials used throughout the campus.
