A.C.T.I.V.E  Freshmen Retention Welcome Dinner

This program will be held to introduce students to phases I & II of the A.C.T.I.V.E. program. Student will have the opportunity to meet other students in the program, the Graduate Assistants, and the staff of the Center for Multicultural Affairs. We ask that participants come hungry. (Social)

Students will learn how to manage a budget. This is an interactive session on budgeting (including prioritizing expenditures), and balancing work commitments with academics and other aspects of college life. This session will also cover the idea of imaging (clothes, car, and jewelry, and faulty assumptions underlying imaging.

Small Talk
This workshop is an opportunity for students to develop very useful communication and interpersonal skills. In spite of seeming to have little useful purpose, small talk  a ritual and a strategy for managing relationships effectively. It serves many functions in helping to define the relationships between friends, work colleagues, and new acquaintances.

Self-Care
Taking time out to care for yourself can remind you and others that you and your needs are important, too. Having a well-cared-for body can make you feel good about yourself and your life, and conveys to others that you value yourself. This can contribute to long-term feelings of wellbeing. Taking time to care for yourself regularly can make you a better caretaker for others. This is a hands-on, therapeutic workshop to teach you effective meditating skills and stress reducing techniques.
