Dorothy Malloy

Email: dorothy.malloy | Dorothy Malloy has served Villanova University as its first General Counsel since February of 1989. She was promoted to Vice President and General Counsel in February, 1998, a title she continues to hold. In these capacities Ms. Malloy conducts or oversees the conduct of all legal affairs for Villanova University and advises the University's Board of Trustees, President, officers, deans and directors with respect to a wide variety of legal matters. Ms. Malloy has also served both as an adjunct law professor at Villanova University School of Law, teaching courses on "The Law of Higher Education", and as a Consultor on the Board of Consultors of the Law School.
Prior to joining Villanova, Ms. Malloy served as Assistant General Counsel and then Associate General Counsel for the University of Pennsylvania. She was also an Associate at the Center City offices of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ms. Malloy also served a Judicial Clerkship with The Honorable Norma L. Shapiro in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Ms. Malloy earned her undergraduate degree in English from the University of Michigan (B.A. 1977, Summa Cum Laude) and her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania (J.D., Magna Cum Laude, 1980), where she was named to the Order of the Coif and elected to the Penn Law Review.
Ms. Malloy is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Federal Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. |

Debra Fickler

Email: debra.fickler | Debra Fickler has over 25 years of experience as an in-house higher education attorney. She began her legal career in higher education at the University of Pennsylvania where she served as Assistant and then Associate General Counsel.
Ms. Fickler has served twice as Deputy General Counsel for Villanova, from 1998-2004, and returning in 2008. Prior to re-joining Villanova, Ms. Fickler served as the first General Counsel of Saint Joseph's University where she was responsible for overseeing all legal issues affecting the University and held the position of the University's corporate Secretary. Ms. Fickler began her legal career as an Associate in the Trusts and Estates department of the Philadelphia law firm of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll. She has also served as an adjunct law professor at Temple University School of Law and Villanova University School of Law. Ms. Fickler earned her undergraduate degree in education and a graduate degree in business from Temple University (B.S., Summa Cum Laude, 1974 and M.B.A., 1979). She received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D., Magna Cum Laude, 1982), where she was named to the Order of the Coif and was an Associate Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.
Ms. Fickler serves on the Board of Trustees of the Support Center for Child Advocates, a non-profit organization that provides free legal and social services for Philadelphia's abused and neglected children(www.advokid.org). Ms. Fickler is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Federal Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. |

Katherine Hastings

Email: katherine.hastings | Katherine K. Hastings joined Villanova in 2007. She has over twenty years of corporate, compliance and litigation experience in major law firm, government and corporate settings. Before joining Villanova, Ms. Hastings served as a law clerk to the Honorable Norma L. Shapiro in Federal District Court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Prior to that she was in-house corporate counsel to three different corporations: Kraft Foods, Inc. of Northfield, Illinois; Envirosafe Services, Inc. of King of Prussia, PA (where she was the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary); and IU International Corporation of Philadelphia, PA. She was also an associate for several years in the Business Department of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis.
Ms. Hastings earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan (B.S. 1976) and her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh (J.D. 1980). She is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of Illinois and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. |

Email: mary.anne.curran | Mary Anne Curran joined the office of the Vice President and General Counsel in May 2005 as Executive Secretary. In this position, Ms. Curran provides support to the attorneys in the wide variety of legal issues facing an institution of higher education.
Before joining the Office, Ms. Curran worked at Villanova as a Secretary III in the Human Resources Department and as a Secretary III in the Development Office. Prior to joining Villanova, Ms. Curran worked as an Information Analyst at Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford, CT.
Ms. Curran earned her associate's degree in general arts from Villanova University in 1999 and is pursuing a bachelor's degree from Villanova. |

Email: elizabeth.springuel | Elizabeth "Betsy" Springuel joined the Office of the Vice President & General Counsel in July 2008 as Administrative Assistant. In this position Ms. Springuel works closely with Ms. Curran to provide support to the attorneys in the wide variety of legal issues facing an institution of higher education.
Prior to joining the Office of the Vice President & General Counsel, Ms. Springuel worked at Villanova as a Secretary III in the Office of University Development. Before coming to Villanova Ms. Springuel worked for a medical practice in Willow Grove, PA.
Ms. Springuel earned her undergraduate degree from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY in Music Performance (B.M.,Cum Laude,2006) and is currently pursuing a graduate degree. |
