We believe that information technology is one of the best learning (and
teaching) tools in education today. Our laptop initiative began in the Fall of
1998 with the Villanova School of Business (formerly known as the College of Commerce & Finance). The College of Engineering joined
in this program in the Fall of 2004 and now, all new freshmen will be provided a laptop
computer that is included in the tuition charge. At the end of your sophomore
year, the laptop is replaced with a new, up-to-date model for the remaining two
years. Upon graduation you take permanent ownership of the laptop.
In support of the laptop program the University has taken steps to provide
the necessary power and internet connections that will enable you to use your
laptop in the classroom, as well as the dining halls, lounges and other areas
throughout the campus. In addition, the new laptops provided to freshmen include
a card that supports a new wireless connection system in most buildings. Our
laptop program is one reason why the University was recently recognized by the
Princeton Review and PC Magazine as number one (1) among
“The Top 20
Wired Colleges.”
More information about your laptop will be available in the upcoming months.
