An employee, who is the child’s primary caregiver, is eligible for up to six
(6) weeks of paid leave using their sick time bank for absences from work due
to:
- the care of the employee’s newborn child;
- the employee’s adoption of a child, or placement of a foster child with the
employee and to care for the employee’s newly placed child
All sick days paid will be applied toward the twelve (12) week maximum allowed
under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), if applicable. The University
will provide an additional period of unpaid FMLA to bring the total paid and
unpaid to twelve (12) weeks. The leave to care for a newborn child or for a
newly placed child must conclude within (12) twelve months after the birth or
placement. All requests for leave must be made in writing and in accordance with
University procedures. This policy applies only to employees who qualify for
FMLA leave.
