Call for Papers

2010 CONFERENCE THEME:
Catholic Social Teaching and Worker Justice

March 22-23, 2010

Villanova University and Catholic Scholars for Worker Justice invite papers and/or creative work on the following themes:

  • Worker justice, including the purpose and role of unions, living wage, working conditions and worker dignity;

  • International labor movements and the global economy, including international labor market immigration, Agricultural Jobs Bill and Dream Act;

  • Ecology and the green economy, including new jobs in the green economy, education for students in the green economy, adapting work responsibilities and environments for a green economy.

Papers should apply Catholic social teaching to these and related issues or illuminate new research in the humanities, social or natural sciences as well as public policy measures that can be brought into dialogue with Catholic social teaching.

Papers must be submitted by December 31, 2009 for consideration.

Contributors are encouraged to explore:

  • Themes in Catholic social teaching which illuminate and inform the nature, causes and consequences related to each issue.
  • Theoretical or empirical research that advances the discourse of Catholic social teaching.
  • Analysis of existing literature and research from the Catholic perspective that is particularly relevant to the theme.
  • Recommendations on how future teaching documents might advance our understanding of the theme.

Papers may be selected for presentation at these conferences and/or be included in a future issue of the Journal of Catholic Social Thought, published by Villanova University.

To be considered for conference participation:

Papers are solicited with a first right of refusal for publication in the Journal of Catholic Social Thought. Each must be original work that has not been or is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.

  • Double space throughout.
  • Indent each paragraph.
