Villanova Nursing alumna receives 2nd star as U.S. Navy admiral
VILLANOVA, Pa., October 22, 2007 — Villanova University College of Nursing alumna Christine
Bruzek-Kohler, ’74 B.S.N., M.A., Ed.D., R.N., FACHE on July 3, 2007 was promoted to Rear Admiral
(upper half). She serves as the 21st Director of the Navy Nurse Corps, and Chief of Staff for the
Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) — Navy Medicine's headquarters—in Washington, D.C.
Rear Adm. Bruzek-Kohler was nominated for her second star earlier in the summer of 2007 by
Secretary of Defense Dr. Robert M. Gates and confirmed by President Bush because of her
continued superior performance in serving the U.S. Navy.
On July 3, Christine Bruzek-Kohler ’74 B.S.N., M.A., Ed.D., R.N., FACHE is sworn in as rear admiral
(upper half) by then-Navy Surgeon General Vice Admiral Donald C. Arthur, M.C., U.S.N. He has
since retired.
