Villanova Nursing’s Dr. Suzanne Smeltzer inducted into National MS Hall of Fame
Villanova, PA, September 11, 2007 —
Villanova University College of Nursing’s Suzanne C. Smeltzer, Ed.D., R.N., FAAN, professor and director of
nursing research, will be inducted into the National MS Society 2007 Volunteer Hall of Fame in Health. She
will be officially recognized at the National Conference in Dallas, Texas on October 25.
Dr. Smeltzer is committed to making health promotion practices and services accessible and acceptable for
those who are physically challenged. She is an internationally known scholar, researcher, educator and author,
who has directed the College’s Health Promotion for Women with Disabilities Project funded by a grant from
the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation. Much of Dr. Smeltzer’s research has addressed health issues of people
with multiple sclerosis. She has been funded by the national group in the past and worked with the MS Society
at the local and national level. Since 1991 she has worked with the local chapter organizing and presenting
programs, and serving as member and chair of its Clinical Advisory Committee.
Dr. Smeltzer is a past recipient of the Service Award, National MS Society, Greater Delaware Valley Chapter
in 2006 and the Hall of Fame Award, National MS Society, Greater Delaware Valley Chapter in 2000.
