Because details and availability for some opportunities may change, interested students should check this Web site frequently for new postings or changes to current postings, as well as communicate with the faculty contact person.

Practicum in Parent-Child Nursing - Senior Year

Weslaco, Texas Practicum in Parent-Child Nursing

Dates: As determined by Dr. Patricia Mynaugh, usually occurs within the last few weeks of the semester.

Details: Eligibility: This experience is restricted to 6 students in NUR 4103 and who will be assigned to Dr. Mynaugh’s practicum group.

Dominican Republic Pediatric Practicum in Parent-Child Nursing
Dates: April 2008 - As determined by Prof. D. Wimmer.
Credits: Part of NUR 4101 Practicum in Parent-Child Nursing

Details: Application due to Prof. Wimmer in the fall semester prior to the experience. Restricted to six (6) students in pediatric clinical rotations second half of Spring Semester.

Elective International Experience

Galway, Ireland “Nursing Experience in Ireland”
National University of Ireland, Galway
Dates: Two weeks in May.  Four classes throughout the spring semester at Villanova.
Credits: 3 credits, NUR 7087 – International Nursing

Details: Eligibility: Open to all Villanova junior and sophomore nursing students and selected nursing graduate students and RN students
Deadlines: Application due in the fall semester preceding the Spring experience.

Durban, South Africa Field Experience in International Nursing
Durban, South Africa
Dates: 2.5 weeks in May (includes travel time)
Credits: 3 credits, NUR 7087 – Field Experience in International Nursing

Details: Eligibility: successful completion of NUR 3112/3113 or by permission of instructor; application in fall semester. Course will examine health care issues and the health care delivery system in South Africa as well as historical, economic, political and socio-cultural contexts. Classes at Villanova prior to departure, concluding with clinical observations and participation in South Africa.

 

Japan Aomori University, Aomori Japan
Dates: 2 weeks in May - This experience will not be offered until Spring 2009
Credits: 3 credits, NUR 7087 – International Nursing

Details: Course will explore Japanese history, culture, nursing and health care.
Classes here at VU before departure.
2 weeks in Japan - 1 week studying at Aomori University in Aomori, Japan
with clinical observations in health care facilities.

 

Study Abroad - Sophomore Year Only

Manchester, England University of Manchester, Nursing Department
Dates: Sophomore year abroad, run in conjunction with the International Studies Office of Villanova University
Credits: Courses transfer to Villanova as the sophomore year of the nursing curriculum

Note: The program requires some changes in the Freshman course of study; any freshman who is interested should contact the Director of the Undergraduate Program as soon as possible. In addition, interested students should contact the Director of International Studies.
Details: Eligibility: Freshman nursing students must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater to be considered for the program. The Director of the Undergraduate Program holds an information session before Fall Break for interested students.
Deadline: Interested students should meet with the Director of the Undergraduate Program for program planning before November 1st and consult the International Studies Office for other deadlines.

A nursing major may also participate in any numerous summer study abroad programs offered through the International Studies Office. Students interested in spending a semester of their junior year abroad should contact their Program Director and the Director of International Studies.

These non-nursing programs are not eligible for Connelly-Delouvrier funding.
