The College of Nursing assumes full responsibility for providing the instruction
throughout the entire program. During the professional portion of the
curriculum, theory and laboratory are directed by faculty members. Beginning in
the second year of undergraduate study, the students enroll in a nursing
practicum to gain actual nursing experience.
The College of Nursing is affiliated with more than 70 health care agencies
that provide clinical settings for student experiences. This variety of renowned
agencies creates uniquely diverse opportunities for our students. They develop
flexibility and enjoy exposure to many types of health care and practice
settings.
"Villanova has a large variety of clinical sites. Experiencing many different
environments helped me both to be able to function in a wide variety of settings
and to explore which practice environments I might prefer later."
Jessica Wetzel Staschak, MSN, CPNP
BSN '00, MSN '03
Changes in health care are placing more emphasis on community-based care.
Experiences in the College reflect this emphasis, as well as more traditional
settings where nursing is practiced. Students are responsible for their own
transportation to and from the various facilities utilized for the practice of
nursing. Community-based practice of nursing will most likely require individual
means of transportation for agency and home visiting.

Selected school systems, day-care centers, community health centers, senior
citizen centers, and industries are also used.
“Villanova does not have one specific hospital that it
is associated with; we go to over 70 different clinical sites. I love this.
Being able to go to a different hospital or healthcare facility for each
clinical provides me with variety and experience I would not have if we were
associated with only one area hospital. Not only do we get to see what kind of
nursing we may be interested in, but we get to see what kind of place we want to
work in. It also allows us to expand our networking with other health care
providers.”
