I came to Villanova from Portland, Oregon, which is quite a distance both geographically and culturally. When people ask me why I came so far, I tell them that I came to stretch my personal boundaries, to maximize my college experience and to find out who I truly am. Over the last 4 years, I have changed and grown as a person and a nurse, truly internalizing all the values of a Villanova graduate: compassion, professionalism and service to those in need.

I recently took part in a service trip to Chulucanas, Peru which is an impoverished city on the northern coast. I, along with 11 other nursing students, gave health promotion presentations to the citizens of Chulucanas and we visited families in their homes to address their health concerns. As much as we gave to them, they gave back to us many times over. The gracious nature of the people and their optimistic attitudes overwhelmed us. They taught us the true meaning of grace, and I was so thankful that I was part of the trip and a representative of Villanova College of Nursing. That opportunity was so unique and fulfilling, and many Villanova students take part in service trips like mine every year. Service trips are a true reflection of the Villanova spirit, and that spirit makes me proud to be a member of this community.

As my four years at Villanova comes to a close in May, I look forward to a terrific nursing position at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, an outstanding institution that hires many Villanova nursing graduates every year. I am thrilled to be taking my experience with me as a valuable asset to my career as a registered nurse. I feel confidant in my skills and my ability to learn as I enter my new job, as well as my capabilities as a leader. Throughout my undergraduate career I was able to participate in different groups and clubs that diversified my experience and my social life and allowed me to take leadership roles.

Villanova's College of Nursing is unique in that it is a part of a large, highly competitive, rigorous university but it maintains a close, intimate group of faculty and students. This aspect allows small class size and close student-faculty relationships while still offering all the benefits of the larger Villanova community. Villanova's College of Nursing is unique in that it is located in a quiet suburban neighborhood but still takes advantage of the learning opportunities afforded by the many teaching hospitals on the Main Line and in Philadelphia. Villanova is perfect for people who enjoy visiting the city but enjoy the suburban living environment.
