Support Services

We measure academic success one student at a time!

There are various support services available to College of Nursing students to assist them with their academic endeavors, such as those that relate to test-taking, study skills and subject-specific issues.

Additional sources of assistance and information are available from Villanova’s web site, the College of Nursing web site, the Undergraduate Catalog, and the College of Nursing Students Handbook. Most importantly, students should take the responsibility to meet with their advisor in the College of Nursing on an ongoing basis. In addition to providing assistance with registration and course selection, the advisor is able to direct the student to appropriate resources for academic, financial, health or personal concerns.

To supplement the advising process, our Student Academic Resources Advisor is available during regular business hours to assist students with immediate advising and other academic issues. This advisor is also the link for our multicultural students to the resources offered by the University's Center of Multicultural Affairs.

Test-Taking and Study Skills

The Study Skills Program of the University Counseling Center is designed to help students achieve academic success.

Visit the Study Skills Program web site to get tips and workshop schedules.

In addition, the Nursing Learning Resource Center (LRC) routinely offers a program for nursing students on learning styles and test taking skills. This program provides techniques to assist students in using their brain's preferred method to assimilate information in a classroom environment, extract information from written materials, and study using techniques which assist in placing information in long term memory (as opposed to short term memory where information is quickly forgotten). NCLEX Preparation resources are also offered. Contact the LRC for additional information.

Learning Support Services

The Office of Learning Support Services, in conjunction with faculty, is committed to providing reasonable academic accommodations for students with various disabilities. It is the responsibility of the student to identify themselves to the Coordinator of Learning Support Services and submit for review current documentation of their disability.  Visit the Learning Support Services web site for more information at www.learningsupportservices.villanova.edu.

Learning Resource Center (LRC)

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides numerous tutorial and audiovisual programs for use by students to supplement class and clinical learning.

Subject-Specific Assistance

Writing Center

The Villanova Writing Center provides a comfortable atmosphere for a one-to-one session with a qualified tutor.  Students are asked to bring their paper, assignment, and an open mind; tutors will do their best to help students improve their writing. Visit the Writing Center web site at www.writingcenter.villanova.edu for more information.

Mathematics Learning and Resource Center

The Mathematics Learning and Resource Center (MLRC) is a place where students can get free tutorial help with their freshman and sophomore level math classes. Tutors are available for MAT 2150, Statistics for Health Care Professionals. Contact the MLRC to schedule an appointment.

Tutors

At the beginning of each semester, the Undergraduate Office of the College of Nursing develops a list of student tutors for Chemistry and Anatomy and Physiology. The list of available tutors may be obtained from your advisor or in the Undergraduate Office. Additional tutors may also be identified by the Biology and Chemistry Departments.
