Shortly after his selection as Villanova University’s 32nd President in June
2006, Father Peter M. Donohue commissioned the development of a Campus Master
Plan, with the goal of creating a roadmap for the future construction, renewal,
and maintenance of Villanova’s campus. The Master Plan will assess current and
future space needs, and will be an inclusive process involving input from
faculty, students, and staff throughout the University.
As a way to keep the entire University community engaged in the Campus Master
Plan development process, we have created this dedicated web site, which we hope
will become an important forum for sharing and considering ideas together as we
move forward with this important initiative.
The first step in the planning process involved the selection of a consultant
with an expertise in campus planning for academic institutions. Following a
thorough request for proposal (RFP) and interview process, Villanova selected
the Philadelphia firm Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates (www.vsba.com)
to lead the University’s planning efforts and development of the Campus Master
Plan. The process is being directed by the project administration team of Ken
Valosky, Vice President for Administration and Finance; Bob Morro, Executive
Director of Facilities; and John Cacciola, Director of Engineering and
Construction.
The Venturi, Scott Brown planning team began meeting with the University’s
leadership and Master Plan sub-committees—composed of faculty, staff, and
students—in Spring 2007. Phase I of the project focused on gaining an
understanding of the University’s history and mission, its opportunities and
constraints, and its goals and objectives, as well as laying the groundwork for
future stages of the planning process. Phase II includes several interim reports
intended to share preliminary options for some elements of the plan, as well as
thoughts about organizational alternatives. Both Phase I and Phase II reports
are available for review as a separate section on this web site. The goal is to
present a Campus Master Plan proposal to the Board of Trustees in October 2008.
