Frequently Asked Questions
What is the St. Thomas of Villanova Celebration?
Each fall, Villanova begins the academic year with a celebration
honoring St. Thomas of Villanova, the patron of the University.
Originally held on one afternoon, St. Thomas of Villanova Day recently
has been expanded to two days and now incorporates an academic
symposium, day of service, community Liturgy and dinner. The Day of
Service, an initiative that was a very successful part of the
Inauguration of the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, O.S.A. in fall 2006, has
become the hallmark of the celebration.
How do the various components of the celebration tie into Villanova's
Augustinian heritage and mission?
The University community is committed to the Augustinian ideals of Veritas, Unitas, Caritas – Truth, Unity, Love. These ideals guide the
Villanova educational experience and come alive through the events that
comprise the St. Thomas of Villanova Celebration. United in academic
inquiry, discourse and service to others, this annual celebration
provides the Villanova community with the opportunity to reflect upon
the University’s heritage and breathe life into its mission.
Can my family, friends and others that don't work or study at
Villanova participate
Absolutely! The St. Thomas of Villanova Celebration events are open
to all faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends and family. Each event
has been planned to reflect the spirit of community that distinguishes
Villanova and all are welcome to participate.
How do I register for the Day of Service?
Register
online for the Day of Service.
I see that there are multiple registration forms. Which one do I use?
There are three types of online registration for the Day of Service:
- Individual students, faculty, and staff should use the "Individual
Registration" form. As service sites become full, the names of those
sites will be removed from the selection menu.
- Groups (i.e. classes, orientation groups, clubs, academic or staff
departments, etc) should use the "Group Registration" form. The group
contact will need the name, email address, lunch preference, class
year/status, and shirt size of all members of the group to complete the
form. The group contact will select a service site preference for the
group.
- Groups that have already organized their own service site but need
logistical support (transportation, food, etc) and groups performing
their project in a different area of the country or on a different day
(i.e. alumni groups) should use the "Independent Site Group
Registration" form.
What is the deadline for registration?
There will be two separate registration periods for the Day of
Service.
- Group registration begins on Wednesday, August 27 and continues
through 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3. At this point, group
registration will close; no exceptions will be made. Group contacts will
be notified of their service site assignment at the conclusion of the
group registration process.
- Individual registration begins on Monday, September 8th and continues
through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12. Individual registration is on a
first come, first served basis and individual service sites will close
when they become full.
