Members of the National Association of College/University Food
Service (NACUFS) Leadership Institute, sponsored and
hosted by Tyson Food Service, recently opened their
hearts and wallets to help residents of Joplin,
Missouri, after seeing the work being done to collect
donations at our World Headquarters.
The NACUFS is made up of representatives of colleges and
universities who hold over $2 billion in purchasing
power. Each year, Tyson Food Service sponsors and hosts
the organization’s Leadership Institute. Thirty-three
college and university leaders are chosen by NACUFS to
attend this institute, which helps identify and exercise
leadership principles in an organizational setting.
Earlier this month, Tyson Foods hosted this influential
group at our World Headquarters. Each morning, the bus
dropped them off outside of our Tower 3 building. As
they walked to their classroom each day, they noticed
the area in that main hallway where we were gathering
items for the Joplin tornado relief fund and made
comments on how much they appreciated our Team Members’
efforts to help.
On Wednesday evening, unbeknownst to any of our Team
Members at World Headquarters, the entire class pooled
their money to purchase necessities to donate to the
Joplin relief fund. They purchased more than $400 worth
of items.
When they came off the bus Thursday morning, they came
loaded with laundry baskets full of personal care items,
diapers, sleeping bags, and other necessities.
“It brought tears to my eyes to see the goodness this
group and this organization brings,” says Food Service
Customer Development Manager Meredith Austin.
