Confidentiality
Upon matriculation, students have the option of signing a consent form
allowing Student Health Center providers to discuss care related issues with the
students’ parents or legal guardians. In general, if the consent is signed,
providers will discuss care issues with parents or legal guardians. If the
consent is not signed, providers will explain this to the parent or legal
guardian and refer the parent or guardian back to the student. Students may
allow or revoke consent to speak with parents or legal guardians at any time.
If the visit is sensitive in nature, the provider will not discuss the issue
with a parent or legal guardian without explicit permission from the student.
Billing
The Student Health Center does not bill insurance companies. Should a student
incur billable services at the Student Health Center (lab costs, prescription
medications), the student has the option of paying via student account, VU
Wildcard, cash or check.
Students wishing to obtain reimbursement from an insurance company should:
- Request that the charges be applied to the student account
- Submit payment to the Office of the Bursar when “Health Center Charge”
appears on the Student Account Statement
- Call the Student Health Center to request an itemized bill
- Send the itemized bill to the insurance company
