Visas

A good source of information about visas is the US State Department's Visa Services web page. It includes information about Foreign Student Visas. Information about entrance requirements may be obtained from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). INS Forms may be obtained by calling 1-800-870-FORM (1-800-870-3676).

A visa is a grant of permission to enter the country.
The U.S. entrance requirements are as follows:

  • You must be in good health.
  • You must be able to support your family financially while in the U.S.
  • You intend to leave the U.S. after your studies are complete You must be law-abiding.

There are several types of visas. These are the most common:

  • F-1 (Student Visa)
  • J-1 (Exchange Visitor Visa)
