An F-1 Visa is issued to an individual who will study at an American institution
approved by the U.S. Attorney General. You must intend to return to your country
of origin within 60 days after completing your studies.
In addition to the F-1
Visa, you will need the following documents:
- I-20 issued by Villanova.
- I-94 issued
by Immigration and Naturalization Services.
- A passport valid for 6 months beyond
your intended date of departure.
If you are married, your spouse (and children) will
be issued an F-2 Visa. Please note that F-2 holder can not work while in the U.S.
The F-1 (student) visa category is a non-immigrant visa. As such, the prospective student MUST demonstrate to the satisfaction of the U.S. consular officer that he or she will return to his or her country of residence upon completion of his or her academic program in the U.S.
Further, the prospective student visa holder is expected to enroll in a “full course of study” during his or her entire time at the U.S. academic institution. Failure to do so will immediately result in termination of the student’s F-1 status and will result in the loss of certain F-1 benefits. At the undergraduate level a “full course of study” is defined as no fewer than twelve (12) credits per semester. For graduate students a “full course of study” is defined as no fewer than nine (9) credits per semester.
