OCTOBER:
October 21, 2009
"Augustine and Evil", by Jonathan Yates, ACS professor and scholar
on Augustine
October 29, 2009 "The Theology
of Bruce Springsteen" by Paul Contino, Director of Great Books and
Associate Director of Center for Faith and Learning, Pepperdine University

NOVEMBER:
November 10 - 22, 2009 "As You Like It" in Vasey Theatre
Past highlights in Villanova's Learning Communities:
Environmental Leadership Learning Community spent a
Saturday visiting two neighborhood organic farms in the city, and then went
to an organic restaurant for their lunch.
Villanova's ACS co-curricular events are "signature"
to its Learning Communities program. So far this year, 200 students
have attended each of the following lectures:
Inside the Garden: How the
Jewish Interpretive Tradition Reads the First Humans, Rabbi Helen
Plotkin, Visiting Assistant Professor of Religion, Swarthmore College
Tragedy and Human Flourishing in Ancient Athens and
Jerusalem, Thomas Hibbs, Dean, Honors, College Baylor University
Leadership Lessons from Plato's Parable of the Cave,
presented to the Leadership Learning Community by John Immerwahr,
Philosophy Professor, Villanova University
ACS faculty, Dr. Bernard Prusak and Dr. Nancy
Kelley, offered a presentation on Villanova's unique summer program for the
Learning Communities and their parents. This special program offers
learning community students both a 3-credit Humanities course on
Globalization and Citizenship and a 3-credit work placement in either London
or Madrid for 8 weeks.
