Diversity Peer Educators

Our Mission Statement

The Villanova University Diversity Peer Educators strive to educate the greater Villanova community of the issues  surrounding "isms": racism, ableism, classism, sexism, and heterosexism.

In order to achieve a greater sense of equality, friendship, and openness for each Villanovan, Diversity Peer Educators work to eradicate all forms of prejudices on campus and to instill acceptance through education.

Diversity Peer Educators enhance student's lives by making the Villanova community aware of the uniqueness of those around them, by educating students, and by setting positive examples for the community, while promoting a society of acceptance and equality on Villanova's campus.

Who Are the Diversity Peer Educators?

Diversity Peer Educators are a group of students who share the goal to bring awareness about diversity issues to Villanova University.

What do Diversity Peer Educators do?

Learning Experiences: Learning Experiences or LEs are a way for DPEs to interact with residents about diversity issues such as "isms": racism, ableism, classism, sexism, and heterosexism. After the LE presentation DPEs facilitate a group discussion which debrief the activity. This is a time for breaking down barriers and reflecting on the presentation.

The Orientation Skit ISM Workshop

Focus Group
An intense skit presented to all the orientation groups to make them aware of the cultural issues on campus and how they can best be avoided. It also stresses acceptance of all Villanova students and to embrace the wide array of diversity the campus has to offer. A week long workshop filled with a diverse group of students from across campus. The workshop is dedicated to recognizing, identifying, and addressing issues of diversity while preventing ignorance through education and practical examples. A group led question and answer session to find out what diversity issues are most prevalent on Villanova's campus and what are some ideas about how ignorance and hate can be prevented.
