interests. Villanova musicians are from every school in the university.
They form close friendships and develop high standards of performance,

Important Announcement for Summer
Music Studies Students:
Jazz Harmony for Educators
(July 21-25) has been CANCELLED We are
sorry to report that unforeseen circumstances have caused us to cancel
the Jazz Harmony class during Summer Session VI. If you are
registered for this course, please contact the Summer Music Registrar,
Gloria Rubin, at 610-519-5050 to switch courses or to discuss financial
arrangements. During Session VI there are openings in the
following courses:
* Rhythmic Development through Drumming and Dance
* Starting and Maintaining a Brass Band
* String Educators Workshop
* Basic Skills in Music Technology: Instructional Software &
Digital Media @ Archbishop Ryan
* Starting a Mariachi Band in Your School @ MENC Headquarters in
Reston, VA
In addition, there are still several openings in courses during the

Student Musical Theater presented a Cabaret - Musical Theatre through the

- The Dance Ensemble presented its Spring
Showcase with special guests The Irish
Dancers.
- The Villanova Voices and Villanova Singers presented their spring concert
featuring Fauré Requiem, with guest appearances by The
Haveners and The Spires.
- The Band played for the live MSNBC national
broadcast of "The Hardball College Tour: Villanova"
featuring Republican Presidential Candidate Senator John
McCain.
- The Villanova Voices performed for Balloon
Day.
- The Villanova Singers held their second
annual Legacy Event that included a weekend of
concerts and alumni events.
- The Villanova Student Musical Theatre
presented Elton John's Aīda.
- International Dance night featured the Villanova Irish Dancers,
the Ararat Armenian Dance Ensemble, and the Villanova
Indian Student Association.
- The Band gave a joint concert with Archbishop Carroll High School
Band, at Archbishop Carroll.
March
- The Villanova Irish Dancers & McDade School
of Irish Dance performed for St. Patrick's Day at the
Belle Air Terrace in the Connelly Center.
- The Band and the Dance Team travelled to the Big East
Tournament in New York City.
- The Villanova Singers had a spring tour to
Montreal. Concert locations included an
Augustinian Church in in Troy, NY and a Nursing Home in
Montreal.
- The Dance Team performed during half time of
the Men's Basketball game vs. USF at the Pavillion
during Spring Break.
- The Band and the Dance Team travelled to the NCAA Tournament
Midwest Region in Tampa.
- The Villanova Jazz Festival kicked off the
festival weekend with a Villanova Jazz Band Performance with special guest artist,
Brian Pastor. The Jazz Festival
continued with a Collegiate Big Band Festival featuring bands from Temple
University, The Temple University Lab Band, The Naval
Academy, and Johns Hopkins University. A Jazz Workshop
was held with the
Denis DiBlasio Jazz Quintet. An
Evening Concert featured the winning college jazz ensemble
with the
Denis DiBlasio Jazz Quintet. The
final day was a
High School Festival featuring Neshaminy High, Radnor, St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, Mamaroneck High,
and Saucon Valley High.
- The Band travelled to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Detroit.
- The Gospel Choir had its Spring Concert.
February
- The Villanova Student Theatre presented six
performances of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
- The Band played for the Women's Basketball games vs. Providence
and Cincinnati at
the Pavilion. The Spires & Vocal Minority sang the National
Anthem at those games.
- The Irish Dancers performed as part of the
James Joyce Birthday Celebration at Flip and
Bailey's in Garrett Hill.
- The Band played for Men's Basketball games
vs. Syracuse, UConn, & Marquette at the
Wachovia Center and Seton Hall & West Virginia at the Pavilion. The Villanova Singers,
Gospel Choir, Spires, Haveners, &
SuperNovas each sang the
National Anthem at a game and the Dance Team performed at half-time.
January
December
- The Villanova Student Theatre held auditions for its
Spring production, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
- The Villanova Voices led a Christmas Carol sing-along at
the Monastary.
- The Villanova Voices and Villanova Singers sang
for the Villanova Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
- The Band played for the Women's Basketball game vs. Penn. The Sirens
sang the
National Anthem.
- The Villanova Singers and Villanova Voices
held their annual
Christmas Concert in St. Mary's Chapel. This concert
included a capella performances by the Spires and Haveners.
- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game vs.
arch-rival Penn. Vocal Minority
sang the National Anthem.
- The Villanova Student Theatre presented Noises Off.
- The Band played for the Women's Basketball game vs. St. Joe's. The
Villanova Singers will sang the
National Anthem.
- Haveners and special guests
Mixed Company from Swarthmore College presented an
end-of-semester concert.
- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game vs. LaSalle at
the Wachovia Center, part of the Big East/SEC Invitational.
- The Gospel Choir presented a Christmas Concert.
- The Villanova Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra
presented a joint
Christmas Concert.
- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game vs. Stony Brook. The SuperNovas
sang the National
Anthem.
- The Sirens and Spires presented a joint Winter
Concert.
November
- The Band played for the Women's Basketball
home opener vs. Fairfield at
the Pavilion 7pm. Members of the Villanova Voices sang the
National Anthem and the Drum Line will perform at half-time.
- The Band played for the final Men's Football home game vs.
Delaware. The Villanova Voices sang the
National Anthem and the Twirlers performed at half-time.
- The
Dance Ensemble held its Fall Showcase in St. Mary's
Auditorium.
- The Band plays for the Men's Basketball game vs. Bucknell. The Villanova Singers
sang the
National Anthem.

The Haveners spent their fall tour at St. Mary's College of Maryland and The
University of Richmond.
- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game vs. Stony Brook. The SuperNovas will
sang the National
Anthem.
- The Haveners sang in a benefit concert for
Habitat for Humanity.
- The Villanova Student Musical Theatre
presented Fame.
- Many of our Music Activities Groups performed during
the Special Olympics.
- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game vs. Bloomsburg at
the Wachovia Center. The Gospel Choir will sang the
National Anthem and the Dance Team performed at half-time.
October

The Band traveled to Puerto Rico for Fall Break and played
several concerts around the island.

The Band played for the football Homecoming game vs. William &
Mary, and a game
against Hofstra, Villanova Stadium. The Twirlers
performed at half-time for both games.

The Villanova Voices Fall Tour to New York City. The
Voices sang a concert of a capella sacred works at The Church
of Saint Paul the Apostle, Columbus Avenue at 60th Street.

The Haveners held an a capella workshop for girls from the
Shipley School in Bryn Mawr. They shared tips on arranging, taught
the girls how to "beat-box", and taught them two of their songs.

The Villanova Singers and the Villanova Voices each spent
an evening singing for the retired priests at Villanova's Monastery.

The Haveners and SuperNovas held a Mission Trip Benefit
Concert .

St. Thomas of Villanova 2007 Celebration - Day of Service
Music Activities Groups went out into the community performing
at locations throughout the region. Two "teams" of
performing groups each visited two locations during the day.
Members of the Villanova Band, Singers, Voices, Dance
Team, Irish Dancers, Dance Ensemble, and
Twirlers
reached out to the residents of the
St. Edmond's Home for Children
in Rosemont, the
Cardinal Kroll Center
(for developmentally disabled men) in Springfield,
Camilla Hall
(a retirement community for the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary)
in Immaculata, PA, and Inglis House
in Philadelphia.

The Band played for the football game vs archrival Penn, 6pm,
Villanova Stadium. The Haveners sang the National Anthem.
The Twirlers performed at half-time.

The Band played for the football home-opener vs Maine. The
Twirlers performed at half-time.

Parents Weekend included two venues for our music activities
students. On Friday evening a few of our newer a cappella
groups performed during
LateNite at Villanova - Family Style! and on Sunday The Band,
Orchestra, Jazz Band, Les Six, The Drumline, Irish Dancers, the Dance
Company, Dance Team, Wildcat Dancers, Irish Dancers, Twirlers, The
Gospel Choir, The Villanova Singers, Spires, The Villanova Voices, and
Haveners all performed in the Music Activities Showcase at the
Connelly Center. Also during Parents' Weekend the Band played for the home football game vs. Maine.
- Auditions were held for the
Villanova Student Theatre, Dance
Team, and many A Cappella Groups for the upcoming
school year.
- Villanova Student Musical Theatre (VSMT) held auditions
over Labor Day Weekend for their fall musical,
Fame!
August
-
450 Villanova Music Activities Students came back-to-school a week
early to learn new choreography, new music, and get a jump start on fall
performances of Fame and Noises Off
at Music Camp during the week of August 18th.
-
Our 18th year of Villanova Summer Music was a great success - Music
Activities hosted hundreds of local music teachers for summer
coursework, helping them enrich their teaching and keep current with the
latest techniques in music education. Courses were offered at two
new sites this summer, University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and
Franklin Lakes Middle School in Franklin Lakes, NJ.
