| The Office of Music Activities provides Villanova students with
unique opportunities to perform, travel, and share their talents and
interests. Villanova musicians are from every school in the university.
They form close friendships and develop high standards of performance,
balanced by a spirit of fun and excitement. |

Information on Course Arrival.
You will receive an e-mail on the Monday evening one week before your
course begins that contains arrival information for overnight students
and commuters, directions, and a printable parking pass.
Pre/Post-Course Assignments.
With a single exception, there will be no pre or post-course
assignments. Only Instrumental Conducting has pre-course
reading and those registered have already been contacted.
Tech Courses. Almost all of
our very popular Music Technology Courses are full. There is
one seat remaining in "Unlocking Creativity with Technology" starting
7/13 at our Allentown, PA location and there are two seats left in
Printing Music using Sibelius starting 7/27 at the Villanova Main
Campus.

Pay your Villanova Summer Music Balance
Online. As of May 1st, you may
pay your
Balance Due online. You need to know your Balance Due to use
the form. You may also use this form to make installment payments,
but your full balance must be paid one month before the start of your
first course.
Villanova Music Camp
Registration closes on July 17th. (Music Camp is for current and incoming
Villanova Students.)

Starting and Maintaining a Brass Band, The Care and Feeding of the

The Eastern String Educators Workshop begins. Designed for
orchestra directors at all levels. String players and non-string
players alike may choose skill development classes appropriate for their
individual needs and interests. Classes focus on technical
skills and pedagogy for teaching east stringed instrument at the
beginning and intermediate levels. |

Session V of Villanova Summer Music begins. All courses for
this week (except the String Educators Workshop that beings on the 19th)
are full. |

May
- The Band played for Commencement.
Graduating members of the Villanova Voices and
Villanova Singers led the graduating class and
guests in the National Anthem and the Alma Mater.
April
- The Villanova Student Musical Theatre
presented an end of year Broadway Blockbusters Cabaret.
- The Band presented its Spring Concert in St.
Mary's Chapel.
- The Villanova Voices will performed as part of the
inauguration of the new Fisk pipe organ at First Presbyterian Church
in Pitman, NJ.
- The Organ Society presented a concert in St. Mary's Chapel.
- The Villanova Singers & Villanova Voices
presented their Spring Concert. The concert
included Leonard
Bernstein's Chichester Psalms for chorus & soloists.
Spires and Haveners also performed.
- The Dance Ensemble presented its spring
showcase in St. Mary's Auditorium
- The Band played for the Villanova Men's Basketball Game vs. North
Carolina in the NCAA Final Four in Detroit.
- Gospel Choir held their Spring
Concert/Worship in St. Mary's Chapel.
- Villanova Summer Music Studies registration opened.
March
- The Band played for the Villanova Men's Basketball Game vs. Pitt
in the NCAA Tournament Elite 8, in Boston.
- ACAPPELLAPALOOZA
- Every year all of the Villanova A
Cappella groups get together for one end-of-season performance in
the Villanova Room
- The Band played for the Villanova Men's
Basketball Game vs. Duke at the Sweet 16 in Boston.

The Jazz Band gave a concert at Bel Aire
Terrace.

The Villanova Jazz Festival hosted seven
University and five High School Jazz Bands for a weekend
of performances in the Connelly Center and St. Mary's
Chapel. This year's guest artist was
Allen Vizzutti.
- The Band played for the Villanova Women's Basketball Game in Round
1 of the NCAA Tournament vs. Utah, College Park,
MD.
- The Band played for the Villanova Men's
Basketball Game in Rounds 1 & 2 of the NCAA Tournament
at the Wachovia Center.
- The Irish Dance Team, the Haveners, and the Drumline
participated in
the St. Patrick's Day Showcase.
- The Band played for Villanova at the Big East Tournament.
Madison Square Garden, NY.
- The Band played for the Women's Big East
Tournament in Hartford Connecticut.
- The Band
played for the Men's Basketball game vs. Providence.
- The Gospel Choir, Villanova Singers, &
Villanova Voices
took a
Spring Break Choral Tour to Brazil.
- They gave an Evening Performance in
Parati's Casa dal
Cultura, and the choirs donated new risers to the performing arts
center. Gospel Choir and Spries
also presented an impromptu concert in the town
square as part of the city's festival of the 342nd
anniversary of its founding.
- The Villanova Voices gave an impromptu
concert at the foot of the Christ the Redeemer
Statue in Rio de Janiero.
- All three groups, as well as Spires and
Haveners presented a School Concert at the
American
School of Rio de Janeiro followed by two Service Projects
in a orphanage and a Kindergarten that service the favela
communities in Rio.
- All three groups attended the Daily Mass at Rio's Cathedral
of St. Sebastian then gave a
Lunchtime Concert in the sanctuary.
February
- The Band played for the Basketball game vs. Georgetown at the
Wachovia Center.
- The Band played for the Women's Basketball game vs. Louisville, Spires
sang the National Anthem.
- The Villanova Student Musical Theatre
presented Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods,
directed by Justin Damm.
- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game
vs. Rutgers at the Pavilion. Gospel Choir
sang the National Anthem.
- The Villanova Student Theatre presented
Dead Man Walking, directed by David Cregan, OSA.
The playwright, Tim Robbins, attended one of the
performances.
- The Band played for the Women's Basketball
game vs. DePaul at the Pavilion, Supernovas sang
the National Anthem.
- The Band played for the Basketball game vs.
Marquette at the Pavilion, Haveners sang the
National Anthem.
- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game
vs. Syracuse at the Wachovia Center.
Singers sang the National Anthem!
- The Band played for the Women's Basketball
game vs. St. John's at the Pavilion, Vocal Minority
sang the National Anthem, 7pm.

- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game

- Haveners appeared at the A Cappella

Choir

its Winter Concert. The Gospel Choir ministers to community
through song, prayer, and scripture. This concert also served as a
fundraiser for the
Gospel
Choir's
upcoming
tour/service trip to Brazil.
- The Dance Company performed at Nationals in
Orlando, FL
- The Alumni Band played for the Basketball
game vs. Louisville at the Wachovia Center, televised on
ESPN.
December
- Band Alumni played for Men's Basketball games
vs. Temple and Navy.
- The Band played for the Basketball game vs.
Saint Joe's.
- Les Six, members of The Band, The
Villanova Singers, and the Villanova Voices
performed for the Villanova University Alumni Event at
the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
- Haveners and Spires had a joint
end-of-semester concert.
- The Supernovas gave a concert in Driscoll
Hall with the Franklin and Marshall Chessmen.
- The Orchestra and Jazz Band presented
a joint Christmas Concert.
- The Haveners sang the National Anthem
for the Women's Basketball game vs. Lehigh.
- The Band presented its annual Christmas
Concert.
- The Villanova Singers & Villanova Voices
had their annual Christmas Concert. The
Haveners & Spires
were featured guests.
- The Band played for the men's Basketball game
vs. arch-rival Penn at the Palestra.
- The Band played for the Men's Basketball game
vs. Houston Baptist. The SuperNovas sang
the National Anthem.
- NBT held its end-of-semester concert in
Driscoll Hall.
November
- The Band played for the new Philly
Classic Series in men's basketball games vs. Towsen
& LaSalle.
- The Dance Ensemble held its annual fall
showcase on two consecutive days. The showcase
featured special guests, the Irish Dance Team and
Nothing But Treble.
- The Irish Dance Team participated in Samosa's
Diwali.
- The Gospel Choir had its fall semester
concert/worship service.
- The Villanova Singers went on tour to
Baltimore. They sang evening mass at the Baltimore
Basilica and gave a concert there.
- The Villanova Student Theatre held a
reception to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
- The University Chamber Music group Les Six
performed at the Mendel Dinner.
- The Haveners visited The College of William &
Mary in Williamsburg, VA, on Fall Tour.
- The Band played for the Women's
Basketball game vs. LaSalle. The Singers
sang the National Anthem.
- The Band played for Men's Basketball games
vs. Monmouth, Albany, Fordham, and Niagara. The
Voices, Vocal Minority, NBT, and the
Sirens each had a turn at singing the National
Anthem.
- The Villanova Student Musical Theatre
presented Bye Bye Birdie
November 7, 8, 13, 14, 15.
- NBT held auditions for remaining open spots in the
group for the remainder of '08-'09.
- The Band will played home Football games vs.
New Hampshire and Towson. The Villanova Voices
sang the National Anthem
- Haveners performed at the Interfaith Habitat
for Humanity Concert.
- Many Music Activities Groups will performed and
hosted events during the Special Olympics, held
yearly at Villanova. The Irish Dance Team
performed for the Opening Ceremony in the Pavilion and
as part of O-Town.
- Haveners performed at the official dinner for
Special Olympics.
- The Band played for the Villanova Basketball
exhibition game vs. Northwood at the Wachovia Center.
Haveners
sang the National Anthem.
- Haveners had a jam session with Nonsequitur
from Columbia University.
- Haveners performed at RIT's Acapellaween.
October
- The Dance Company performed for Homecoming in
the quad.
- The Band played for the Homecoming Football
game vs. James Madison.
- Haveners performed at the Brest Cancer Vigil.
- Spires performed with the Haverford Outskirts
in Driscoll Hall as a fundraiser for Mission Trips.
- The Dance Company performed at Hoops Mania
in the Pavilion.
- The Villanova Singers and Haveners
sang at the Breast Cancer Vigil at the Quad.
- The Band spent Fall Break on tour in Orlando,
FL. They played at Universal Studios & Islands of
Adventure and gave concerts in the Greater Orlando area
at two schools, Holy Family Catholic School and St.
Thomas Aquinas, and two nursing homes, The Palms Park
Place and Good Samaritan.
- Villanova Student Theatre presented The
Dining Room by A.R. Gurney, Jr., directed by Steve
Hatzai. October 8, 9, & 10 @ 8pm in St. Mary's
Auditorium.
September

The Band played for the home football game vs. Richmond.

Music Activities groups will participated in St. Thomas of Villanova Day
by performing at Retirement Communities, Veterans' Homes, and other deserving
institutions in the area.

The
Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Twirlers,
Dance Ensemble, Wildcat Dancers, Gospel Choir,
Singers, & Voices performed in the Music Activities
Showcase for Parents' Weekend.

The Band played for the Villanova Football home opener.

The Villanova a capella groups kicked off Parent's Weekend with an
all a capella performance at Bel Aire Terrace.
- Music

- Wildcat Dancers held tryouts for the '08-'09
school year. Wildcat Dancers perform jazz/hip hop/cheerleading
type routines at football games, women's basketball games, and other
campus events.
- The Dance Ensemble had Auditions for
pieces to be presented in the Fall Showcase.
- The Dance Company
held auditions for new members.
- The
A Cappella consortium held a One Day Audition
Extravaganza.
Auditions for all groups (Haveners, Spires, Nothin'
But Treble, Vocal Minority and
Supernovas) were on the same day.
- The Villanova Irish
Dancers performed at the Scottish-Irish Festival and Highland Games
in Green Lane.
- Dance & Vocal Auditions for Villanova
Student Musical Theatre's
fall production of Bye Bye Birdie were held.
Thanks to everyone who came out for the 3 day audition event!
- An A Cappella BBQ meet and greet was held with
members of all Villanova a cappella groups: Supernovas, Sirens,
Vocal Minority,
Haveners, Spires, and Nothin' But Treble
- Dance Ensemble & Dance Company held an Info Night
where incoming freshmen and upperclassmen could more about both Company
and Ensemble. Villanova Dance Company and Ensemble dance at
on-campus and off-campus events and dance everything from Ballet to
Hip-Hop.

Villanova Student Theatre held auditions for its production of A.R. Gurney’s
The Dining Room.

Many Music Activities Groups participated in the yearly
Activities Forum.

365 Villanova Music Activities Students (including 116 Freshmen!) came
back-to-school a week early to learn new choreography, new music, and get a jump
start on fall performances of Bye Bye Birdie and The Dining Room
at Music Camp during the
week of August 18th.
June & July
- Music Activities held its 19th Annual
Summer Music Studies Program for Music Educators.
Forty-one courses were offered this summer with 671
Music Educator attendees. We at Villanova Music
Activities and University of the Arts hope that amounts
to 671 music classrooms throughout the region with newly
energized teachers with many new creative ideas being
brought to each school!

Pianos for General Use
Pianos for student use are available in the following locations in St.
Mary's Hall:
Library - 1st Floor
Room 126 - 1st Floor
Auditorium - Basement
Music Lab (keyboards) - Basement
3rd Floor Lounge (for St. Mary's Hall Residents only)
Most of the above locations are also classrooms. Access to pianos
is only available when the room is free and not being used for class or
other planned group activities. Otherwise, pianos are available on a
first-come-first-served basis.
Additional pianos and locations throughout the campus are being planned. |
