While attending Villanova University, a student may be faced with an unplanned
pregnancy, desire assistance for a student who is, or just need someone to talk
with about issues and options. Villanova University is committed to life and to
making the choice of life viable for our students. For these reasons, the University
makes every effort to provide any student who
should become pregnant with a supportive environment that assures caring, non-judgmental,
professional assistance and support.
A student who becomes pregnant while attending Villanova University may elect
to stay at Villanova during pregnancy if she wishes. The University community will
offer her our full support. Villanova will do its best to accommodate a student's
needs and concerns regarding classes, housing, and personal counseling during and
after the pregnancy.
Villanova University is also a participant in the Nurturing Network, a national
organization that assists with every facet of a pregnant woman's needs. The Network
can be especially helpful should a Villanova student desire to live in another geographic
area during her pregnancy or to transfer to another college or university of comparable
excellence during pregnancy.
In order to support the choice of life and to provide information and assistance
to pregnant students, Villanova has designated an advocate to help students who
are (or think they may be) pregnant: Kathy Byrnes, Associate Vice President for
Student Life (contact information is below). In addition, the academic Deans' offices,
Campus Ministry, and the University Counseling Center are also available to offer
assistance to students in need.
