As of the Fall 2007 Semester with the installation of a new University phone
system, dial tone will no longer be available in each residence hall room. This
decision came as a result of the overwhelming increase in student use of cell phones,
the virtual non-use of the on-campus phone system by resident students, and surveys
indicating that students prefer using cellular service to residence hall dial tone.
As a result of the removal of dial tone, emergency phones will be installed in common
areas of each residence hall. These phones will allow students to place on-campus
emergency calls to areas like Public Safety and the Health Center, as well as other
University offices. Off-campus local and long distance calls can also be made with
the use of a prepaid calling card or by dialing a toll free number. Emergency call
boxes are also located at the entrance to each residence hall. Cingular Wireless
(now AT&T) also offers Villanova students special pricing for cellular service at
their local retail outlets.
