Located on the South campus, Katharine
and St. Monica Halls are "twin," four-story residences that opened in
1986 to increase the University's on-campus housing capacity. Each
building houses approximately 160 residents in double and triple room
accommodations. As part of the south campus complex, they are
conveniently located close to the Donahue Hall dining facility and
convenience store.
Katharine Hall is named in honor of Mother Katharine Mary Drexel
(1858-1955), founder of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament (1891).
Having inherited a fortune from her banker father, Mother Katharine used
it to fund mission schools and churches for Native and
African-Americans. St. Monica Hall was named for the mother of St.
Augustine. A devout Christian, St. Monica played a significant role in
the conversion of her son to Christianity.
