Instructions: Please read this contract carefully. Once you have read the contract,
please use
NOVASIS to submit your Housing Contract which indicates that you have this contract.
This contract is a binding agreement between the undersigned and Villanova University.
Please read the terms and conditions of the contract outlined below and on the reverse
side carefully before signing.
Period of Contract
This contract shall be enforced for the full academic year. The usual period
begins on the fist day of the fall semester, concludes on the last day of the student’s
final exam schedule in the Spring semester, and excludes scheduled University break
or vacation periods. In the event that a student signs the contract after the first
day of the Fall semester, the period shall begin from the date available for occupancy
and conclude on the last day of the student’s final exam schedule in the Spring
semester. Accordingly, any student signing a contract agrees to live in University
housing for the entire period of the contract while attending Villanova University.
Accepting placement in a University residence hall obligates the resident to take
a University sponsored meal plan. See the Food Services Contract, Rules and Regulations
for details. Accepting placement in a University apartment carries no meal plan
obligation.
Contract Termination
The contract will be terminated automatically in the case of authorized withdrawal,
academic or disciplinary suspension, participation in student teaching or other
mandatory academic field placement assignment, graduation, and/or in the event of
marriage but for no other reasons.
Students desiring to be released from contractual obligations for other good reasons
may submit written requests to the Director for Residence Life. Generally, students
will not be released from housing contracts during the academic year. However, release
may be permitted at the discretion of the Director. A service fee of $300 will be
charged for early contract release and/or termination.
University approved refunds that result from contract cancellation are the responsibility
of the Bursar and subject to policies published in the University Bulletin.
Other Conditions
Continued campus residency is contingent upon compliance with University policies,
procedures and regulations contained in, but not limited to, the University Bulletin
and the Student Handbook. Failure to comply will be considered a breach of this
agreement and subject the student to a potential loss of housing privileges. Under
those conditions a student is generally entitled to the hearing procedures outlined
in the Student Handbook. However, the Dean of Students and Director for Residence
Life reserve the right to move or remove students considered disruptive or otherwise
detrimental to the residence population or hall environment with or without a formal
hearing. Further, actions not involving loss of housing privileges may be taken
by the Director for Residence Life without a formal hearing.
Prior to, during and subsequent to the period of contract, the University assumes
no legal obligation to pay for the loss of or damage to items of personal property
that occur on its grounds or in its buildings or storage areas. In the event that
assigned accommodations are destroyed or made unavailable, and the University does
not furnish other accommodations, the contract shall terminate. All rights and liabilities
of the parties involved shall cease and payments previously made will be refunded
on a prorated basis.
The student is responsible for the condition and proper care of the assigned accommodation
and associated furnishings and will reimburse the University for all damages sustained
to those items. Accommodations are available as is. Residence Life cannot store,
replace or supplement accommodations, furnishings and/or equipment on request. Personal
construction of any kind (i.e. shelves, lofts, platform beds and similar items)
is prohibited.
The student is required to maintain their accommodation in an acceptable, safe and
sanitary condition and to refrain from causing damage to other parts of the building,
including the common areas. Residents of a building or sub-section of a building
may be held financially responsible for damages to common areas and equipment (e.g.,
hallways, lounges, lavatories), when the student(s) responsible for those damages
do not claim responsibility and cannot be identified. A student may be held financially
responsible for such damages, without a formal hearing, if in the considered judgment
of the Director for Residence Life, it is more likely than not that such student(s)
caused the damage. The University reserves the right to enter rooms for the purposes
of exhibition, inspection, repair, emergency and to insure compliance with University
regulations.
Students are prohibited from duplicating University room and elevator keys. Fines
will be imposed for key/combination replacement and lock changes resulting from
damage to locks and/or loss or improper duplication of keys. Students are responsible
for using keys and lock combinations in an appropriate manner so as not to endanger
the safety or security of individuals or property. Failure to abide by safety and
security regulations will be considered a breach of this contract. See the Student
Handbook for details.
Residence Life retains the exclusive right to make housing assignments. Assignment
changes may be requested in writing by the student and are subject to the approval
of Residence Life. Housing contracts are not transferable. Students who assume residency
in accommodations other than those assigned will be subject to fines and/or disciplinary
action. Residence Life reserves the right to use vacant housing space as required.
Students agree to accept roommates as assigned or to move to another room upon request.
The University is sensitive to the impact of smoking within the residential environment.
Residence Life will make every reasonable effort to accommodate a student’s smoking
preference during the assignment process. Students who deviate from their housing
contract, may be required to move to another assignment. It is expected that students
electing to reside together in an apartment will assume responsibility for negotiating
smoking preferences within the confines of their assigned unit.
