Housing Assignment Process

There are two Housing Assignment Lotteries for Upperclassmen:

  1. Rising Juniors and Guaranteed Seniors
  2. Rising Sophomores

Based on your eligibility, you may automatically be placed in one of the above lotteries. Lottery numbers are used to prioritize and organize housing assignments.

View the Legend below to help you identify your particular classification by the Office for Residence Life. If you are unsure of your classification, please feel free to check with the Office for Residence Life so we can assist you.

Legend

New Incoming Freshman admitted to the University as a Resident Student, click here.
Rising Sophomore - a current freshman living in a residence hall, enrolled as a full-time undergraduate freshman and who applied to the University and was accepted as a resident, click here.
Rising Junior - a current sophomore living in a residence hall, enrolled as a full-time undergraduate sophomore and who applied to the University and was accepted as a resident, click here.

Guaranteed Senior - a current junior living in a residence hall, and is guaranteed a 4th year of housing through a special scholarship or academic program, click here.

How it Happens

If Then
You are eligible to participate in the Lottery >> You are automatically assigned a Lottery Number.
You receive a Lottery Number (in NOVASIS) >> You will have access to submit the Room Preference Selection Form (in NOVASIS).
You complete the Room Preference Selection Form (in NOVASIS) >> You will receive a Housing Assignment.
You receive a Housing Assignment >> You can accept your Housing Assignment by reading and submitting the Housing Contract.

[1] Determine Eligibility
[2] If you are eligible, you will automatically receive a Lottery Number which is a randomly generated computer number. (more...)
[3] Submit a Room Selection Preference Form (in NOVASIS)
[4] Assignments are made off of Lottery Numbers from lowest to highest.
[5] If you want to accept your assignment, complete the Housing Contract
[6] If you would like to request a room change, complete the Housing Contract and submit a Room Change Request Form.

Notes:

  • Only students who are eligible will receive a Lottery Number.
  • Lottery Numbers are not transferable.
  • You may only choose a roommate who is currently eligible to participate.
  • Indicate Medical Condition on your Room Selection Preference Form
  • Rank order the type of room that you desire (quad, triple, double, single)
  • If you have a preferred roommate, type the VU ID number of your roommate on the Room Selection Preference Form in the appropriate area.
  • Both you and your roommate(s) must:
  • If you do not have a preferred roommate and wish to be assigned a double room, you will be assigned a random roommate who indicated a preference to live in the same building.
