Room Tripling

About Tripling and why it happens

Villanova's goal is to have the same number of resident freshman as we have freshman beds available. Despite a lot of effort to meet this goal each year, sometimes the numbers do not match up. When the number of incoming freshmen exceeds the number of beds, we still need to house everyone, so one temporary measure we take is to "triple" double rooms. We anticipate that some "tripling" will be necessary to meet this year's housing need.

Students will be assigned to triples in "reverse date" of deposit order, beginning with the latest pay dates and working backwards. Restoring rooms to double occupancy is a priority for the Office for Residence Life. Freshmen who begin the year in tripled rooms receive a discount on their room rate for the semester amounting to one-third of the standard room rate for the assigned building.

FAQs about Tripling can be found here.

Average room specifications for a Triple

Bunk Bed* Height from floor to bottom bunk = 27"
Loft Bed* Height from floor = 52"
Closet Width = 49"
Window Dimensions = 72" x 52"

*Our office also has bed rails and ladders available upon request for those students who have bunk beds or a lofted bed.

Note: These are average dimensions for a typical room in Caughlin, St. Monica and Katharine Halls. Not all rooms are the same in a particular residence hall. Furniture dimensions may vary according to residence hall.

Example PhotoIn Caughlin, Delurey, Good Counsel, McGuire, Moriarty, O'Dwyer and St. Monica Halls, each triple room includes three sets of furniture (bed, dresser, desk and chair). It includes a set of bunk beds and a loft bed. There are two closets in each room.
Example PhotoThe triple includes three regular desks and chairs. Example PhotoThis is an example of a loft bed. A triple desk and dresser fit conveniently under the loft to create more space in the room.

Note: There are designated rooms on campus in O'Dwyer, Delurey and Simpson Halls which are standard triple and quad rooms (e.g. rooms are large enough to accommodate three or four students). Students assigned to these rooms do not receive any type of credit nor are they placed on any list to have the room de-tripled.
