Why become an RA?
The foundation of our residence hall program is the RA position. RAs are members
of a community of student leaders who are dedicated to making a difference in the
lives of our residential students at Villanova. As mentors, RAs assist others in
making our residence halls a place to call home. If you become a RA, you will be
challenged but also rewarded in many ways.
Benefits of becoming an RA
Resident Assistants in the traditional residence halls receive
a waiver of room charges and an
Alternative meal plan. Resident Assistants in the apartments receive
a waiver of room charges and a
Commuter
Extra meal plan. In addition, RAs return to campus a week before
classes begin in August to receive intensive training in conflict resolution,
crisis management, leadership, programming, counseling, and more. The experience
of being a leader and helper among peers is often the most rewarding benefit
of the position.
Eligibility to become an RA
RAs at Villanova are sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate
students who demonstrate exceptional leadership and interpersonal,
organizational, and decision-making skills. To receive full consideration for an
RA position, applicants must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be in good
disciplinary standing. Because of the academic demands of the Law School, first
year Law students are generally discouraged from applying. Any student who is
interested in participating in a semester-long RA preparation program is
encouraged to first apply for the RA Mentor Program (RAMP)
RA Mentor Program (RAMP) to develop the skills necessary for the RA
position.
