Roller Skating

Roller Skating is a Special Olympics sport with many different facets. Athletes are given the option to compete in artistic events, speed events or roller hockey. In addition to the choice of sport, athletes may choose to use in-line or quad skates, depending on their strengths. For artistic competition, men and women compete separately. The competition is further divided into four levels, each level progressively more difficult and requiring different elements. Speed events offer a variety of distances for all skill levels, as well as relay and slalom events.

#
These are entry-level events.  Athletes entered in these events may not participate in other events.  They may, however, be listed as alternates for team competition.

Attire

Jeans and sweatshirts are unacceptable.  Leotards and tights, jumpsuits, stretch pants, shorts, and shirts must be worn.

Awards

All Roller Hockey and Roller Skating Speed Awards will be given at the venue on a rolling basis after the completion of each event to keep timing of each competition accordingly.

Equipment

All competitors in speed and roller hockey events must wear a helmet (Anzi 90.4 Rated or Snell) at all times when on the floor.  All roller hockey goalies must wear a facemask.

Facilities

The maple wood floor of the Skate 309 is 152 feet long by 73 feet wide.  The dimensions are slightly different than CN Skate Palace (2004 Venue) so routines should be adjusted accordingly. Skaters should come dressed for competition.  There are restrooms at the skating arena.

Rentals

Rental skates will be available at the rink.

Roller Hockey Tournament Tiebreaker

There will be a 3-minute rest followed by two, 2-minute periods.  If the score is still tied, a final result will be obtained through sudden death shots taken from a point halfway between the center spot and the goal.  A coin toss determines which team shoots first, then teams alternate.

Transportation

Transportation will be provided from the hotels to the rink if needed.
