The Villanova Student Life Community Service Office - Rays of Sunshine - partners with surrounding communities to offer service in a variety of ways. The office is located in Dougherty 214A.

Our program began in 1969 with a number of concerned students hoping to serve the community. A decade later, Santo Marabella, an undergraduate student, revitalized the program, by increasing volunteer activity and giving our program a name, Project Sunshine. We grew strong with support from Villanova's Center for Multicultural Affairs.

In 2004, Project Sunshine grew out of its name and became a part of Student Life, under the new Office of Community Service. Project Sunshine is still a large part of what we do. In the process of a major expansion program, we are currently becoming affiliated with the National Project Sunshine. However, we have taken on so many new opportunities, that we have also expanded our name to Rays of Sunshine.

Rays of Sunshine offers the following programs

  • America Reads Tutors (Weekly Services)
  • Once & Done's
  • Events

  • Fundraisers

  • Executive Committee Opportunities

Rays of Sunshine has also formed partnerships with several national service organizations. We work weekly with the following programs

Each semester, more than 350 students from Villanova participate in one or more of these programs

"The volunteers are awesome! Their time and effort is
extremely valuable to me and to the kids! We couldn't
do it without the volunteers!"
