The first step in satisfying the ACUPCC President’s Climate Commitment is
completing an inventory of the University’s greenhouse gas emissions. This will
determine Villanova’s “carbon footprint” and serve as the basis for developing a
Plan for offsetting these emissions in the years ahead. The Inventory is an
analysis of the natural resources consumed by the operation and maintenance of
our campus facilities and grounds and the business-related travel habits of our
students, faculty, and staff.
The President’s Climate Committee core team has spent the past year on a number
of inventory related tasks:
Retrieving data related to energy and water consumption within campus
buildings.
Developing a survey to capture the energy consumed through University related
travel
Summarizing the results of our campus-wide recycling efforts.
Evaluating the increase of sustainability related coursework into the academic
curriculum.
Inputting the GGE data into the Cool Planet calculator.
The core team’s goal is to complete the Inventory is complete and determine the
University’s carbon footprint by end of September, 2008. Once this first step is
complete, the team will move onto the next step in the Commitment, which is the
development of a plan to offset these emissions and make Villanova a
“climate-neutral” campus.
