Invitation to First-Year Students Interested in
Environmental Issues on
Campus From: President's Climate Commitment Core Team
Re: Committee Membership Application
Date: April 7, 2009
Two years ago, President Peter Donohue formed the
President’s President's Climate Commitment Core Team to oversee the
implementation of Villanova’s obligations set forth in the
commitment he signed.
The team has
completed the first carbon footprint estimate for the campus and is in the
process of generating an action plan to fulfill the goals of carbon neutrality.
The committee is comprised of students, faculty, and staff from diverse
backgrounds who share a passion for environmental issues and a desire to improve
Villanova’s
sustainability commitment.
There are four subcommittees and all student members are expected to
actively participate in at least one subcommittee as well as contribute to the
student group. These subcommittees are:
Communications
Liaise with other sustainability related groups/efforts on campus:
publicize Villanova's
sustainability/environmental
efforts in general.
Sustainability Coordinator/Office
Evaluate and quantify rationale for the creation of an Office of
Sustainability on campus.
The new Villanova Mission Statement specifically
articulates our commitment to
environmental stewardship and
sustainability. Currently there are no permanent
staff positions to
oversee these efforts.
Sustainability Initiatives
Consolidate, investigate, and evaluate sustainability initiatives
being considered but not
currently implemented on
campus. Also evaluate policies that has already been
implemented that
may warrant updating or "reinforcing."
The application process for the 2009–2010
academic year is now closed.
