Although lessons of Sustainable
living and environmental responsibility can be learned through the study of
virtually any major, there are select undergraduate and graduate majors and
programs at the Villanova University that expressly focus on environmental
issues and sustainability. As a community of scholars, we approach
sustainability in many ways. This list is intended to be a resource for students
and enable their efforts to prepare for study in an environmentally related
field; however, environmental problems are characteristically so complex that
interdisciplinary approaches are needed to discover solutions. As a Catholic
institution of higher learning, Villanova University is committed to leadership
in promoting and reinforcing environmental responsibility by integrating
ethical, social, economic, and ecological values of environmentally sustainable
development into its curriculum and research. Additionally, Villanova University
strives to conduct its activities in an ecologically sound, socially
responsible, and economically viable manner, and will continue to do so for
future generations. As part of the Villanova Commitment to Sustainability we
will support the concepts of sustainability in our curriculum, research, and
related activities; thus preparing all members of the Villanova community to
contribute to an environmentally sound society. The institution will strive to
function as a sustainable community, embodying responsible consumption,
promoting ecological literacy and environmentally sound practices among its
students, faculty, staff, and graduates, and supporting these values in the
local community. We encourage you to find your passion and recognize ways of
making your lifestyle and work more sustainable.
