Villanova University Laptop Program Policies

The University has comprehensive computer usage policies. Please familiarize yourself with the following policies:

Laptop Service

If you require service for your Villanova issued laptop, please visit the walk in support center, the TechZONE, at 101 Vasey Hall, or call the Villanova HelpDesk at 610-519-7777 or email support@villanova.edu. If you are studying abroad and require service, contact the Villanova HelpDesk at 610-519-7777 or email support@villanova.edu. These are the only methods to receive Villanova laptop support. Please note if you contact Dell or Apple service directly, you may be charged for service related parts.

Laptop Theft

In the event of a theft the student is required to contact Villanova University's Public Safety Office at 610-519-6979 and the local police department where the theft occurred.  A copy of the Villanova Incident Report and the Police Report are required to be presented to the Laptop Program Manager.  Once the Laptop Program Manager has received the reports the student will be able to pick up a replacement computer from the TechZONE, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9am-5pm.  Each student is responsible for the care of his or her computer.  The student is responsible for any loss, damage or theft of the computer up to $1,000.00 for the first incident.  The charge will be added to the student's tuition.

It is recommended that student's participating in the Laptop Program at Villanova check with their parent's homeowner's insurance to get coverage for the laptop in case of loss, damage or theft of the computer.  Some homeowner's insurance companies will want a "bill of sale" for the laptop.  Since the machine is leased through the University, there is no bill of sale for the computer.  The Laptop Program Manager can, however, provide the student with a letter stating the make, model, serial number and the cost the student is responsible for in case of loss, damage or theft of the computer.  If your homeowner's insurance will not cover the laptop, we have a list of companies that provide renter's insurance for students.

Transfers

Transferring into the Laptop Program - All Freshman and Sophomore transfers into Villanova and upperclassman transfers into the School of Business or the College of Engineering will be issued the laptop for their class year at the start of the semester.  These students will come to the TechZONE in Vasey Hall, Rm. 102 to pick up their laptop.  Students must provide a photo ID in order to receive a laptop.

The Laptop Program Manager will be notified prior to the start of each semester of those students transferring into the laptop program that are required to receive a laptop.  What does the student do if they are not on transfer list?  Student's that are not on the list to receive a laptop but were accepted to their respective laptop required College will do the following:

  • Take the "Laptop Distribution Form" given to them by the TechZONE to their respective College Dean's Office.

  • The College Dean's Office Representative will sign the form to verify that the student is in fact enrolled in the College and is required to receive a laptop.

  • The student returns to the TechZONE with their "Signed" Laptop Distribution Form and will receive their laptop.

Please Note: Students transferring into Villanova University are required to participate in the Laptop Program regardless of their personal computer.  Students will be issued a leased laptop from the University.

Transferring out of the Laptop Program
- If you are no longer a student at Villanova University, you must return the laptop in full working condition to the TechZONE in Vasey Hall, Rm. 101.  This includes all withdrawals from the University, leaves of absence, or for any other reason.

Failure to return the laptop will result in a non-refundable tuition fee equal to the residual value of the laptop. Failure to pay any amounts due under this program agreement may result in transcripts being withheld. If a student changes Colleges within Villanova, the student is required to return the laptop and pickup the computer for their respective College. Due to the different software configurations for each College, the student is required to have the proper laptop for their major and class year.
