Streaming video allows people to view a video without having to download
it in it's entirety. The video "passes through" the viewers computer.
Villanova has two different streaming audio/video servers on campus. A
Helix Universal server that can stream Windows Media, Quicktime, Real
Media, MP3s and more that is accessible to every faculty member via FTP
with their e-mail userid and password and a MediaSite server which is
used to stream live events and archived recordings done by CIT.
Content Creation
Digital content, for our streaming servers, can be created in many ways.
The most common methods are:
- Convert from VHS, DVD or miniDV.
- Recording in our Digital Recording Studio (DRS)
in Falvey.
- Live event recording and streaming with our Media Site Live mobile unit.
Note: For duplication and
conversion you must fill out and provide a signed
Video Services Request Form with the materials to be duplicated
or converted.
Content that is being digitized by CIT will take up to seven days to be
completed, depending on the complexity of the conversion. Timeframes for
other services such as video creation/production will vary by project.
