Electronic Portfolios

Portfolio

e-Portfolio is a web service that provides a set of web-based tools to organize and showcase selected pieces of work. This showcase is a collection of work demonstrating the growth and change over a period of time as well as the learner’s reflection on the pieces represented.

Type of collections can include student work, faculty research, professional development or group project. These collections can be organized in various ways to demonstrate learning outcomes, competencies, and experience.

Selected pieces of work are called artifacts. Artifacts may include samples of writing, excerpts from a paper, MS PowerPoint presentation, and images, audio or video clips. Instructors, peers, team members, and potential employers can be granted permission to view specific artifacts with an option for feedback.

e-Portfolio provides additional tools for assessment and data reporting. Many of the reports can be exported to Excel for further analysis.

e-Portfolio Pilot

The University has selected the following two companies to participate in our e-Portfolio Pilot: TaskStream and iWebfolio. This will run September 2004 to September 2006 and consist of 500 students and 20+ faculty.

During this time the faculty and students will be assigned a Taskstream or iWebfolio application to use in conjunction with their courses. Licenses and training for the pilot is being handled by CIT.
