Communication Jacks
Each dorm room is equipped with data and telephone-voice jacks. Our
telephone and voice mail systems provide free on campus calling.
Upon his or her arrival on campus each student will be issued a
pamphlet explaining the available functions and services that the
Telecommunications department offers. The data jack will connect the
students to the University data base and web connections. This service
is included in the room and board for each student. There is no need for
a student to have an outside email account or off campus Internet
provider. If they choose to connect to an outside service they are
responsible for the charges on the phone line for each connection. This
charge will be on their phone bill each month and can add up to a
considerable amount depending on where the dial-in connection is
located.
Dorm Room Connection
All dorm rooms on campus are equipped with Ethernet connections. The
data ports are located on the right side of the quad box that is in the
dorm. The left side is for the phones. If the data insert is black then
you must use a GRAY Ethernet cable. If the insert is GREEN the you must
use a green Ethernet cable. You can tell if there is a link by looking
at the Ethernet card in your computer and seeing if there are lights on
and blinking. If not, then contact either the Student Support Center of
The Help Desk. Cables can be purchased at the student Support Center if
need be. If you bring a cable from home chances are that it will not
work in your dorm room. The grey cables at Villanova are different from
the grey cables that can be purchased at other computer stores. So make
sure you have the right cables.
Campus-Wide Connections
There are many work stations throughout campus. These work stations
use the Green cables. As well as the connection that may be present in
class rooms in buildings such as Bartley Hall and CEER.
Dorm room's contain either a Grey box or a Green box. Each of these
boxes has a place for your phone line to connect to and right next to it
an Ethernet cord connection. The Grey boxes are for Villanova issued
Ethernet cord ONLY. The Green boxes are for standard RJ-45 Ethernet
cords. If there is any questions with this email us or call us at
extension 610.519.7777.
Please note: Do not put a phone cord into a Ethernet port. It will
fit but you can damage your Ethernet port.

- E-mail.
- Browse and publish information on the World Wide Web.

course
registration, library,
catalogs and other databases.
- Submit assignments to professors, confer with classmates, and conduct
research for papers.
- Participate in electronic groups (mailing lists and news groups, must be
logged into webpage in order to access newsgroups).
