Villanova University is committed to quality education, and the
effective use of technology in the learning experience. The University
has made many investments to provide a technologically-enhanced learning
environment that allows 24-hour access to computing and information
resources and tools. All residences, many classrooms, all faculty
offices, and all administrative offices are wired for high-speed
computer access. For laptop computer users, network access ports are
available in many locations throughout campus. All students have access
to the public computer labs on-campus and most Colleges within the
University have computer labs for their majors. Every student can access
electronic mail and the Internet. They can connect to all campus
computer resources, such as the Falvey Library Flash system, and the 'NOVASIS'
student information system, which is used for on-line registration,
viewing grades, and other confidential academic transactions.
Villanova University Colleges have integrated the use of technology
into many courses. Students can complete course assignments by using the
public computer labs or the specialized computer labs provided by most
of the colleges. In 2006, all incoming freshmen receive a Dell
configured laptop. For other students not part of the Villanova Laptop
Program, the Office for University Information Technology (UNIT),
through the Computer Purchase Program, offers 2 laptops from Dell for
purchase by any student. We have recommended hardware and software
configurations that provide each student with everything they need. Our
premier website, provided by Dell, will also allow a student to
customize the hardware and software configurations. This includes
increasing memory, hard drive space, etc. On-campus warranty repair
service is available at the TechZONE in Vasey Hall, Rm. 101, which is
centrally-located on campus to service the students' computing needs.
Students may bring their own computer, and connect to the campus
network from their residence. To access the network, the computer will
need a network card and software. If not pre-installed with the
computer, these items may be purchased from the TechZONE. It is the
student's responsibility to install the necessary components. The
TechZONE will assist the student; however, we can not guarantee that the
computer will successfully connect to the University network.
By purchasing one of the University’s Dell computers, connection to
the network is ensured, and the student benefits from ongoing support.
