The "Printer Acquisition Program" is designed
to optimize the University's use of network and desktop
printers, achieved by the following:
- Reduce the variety of printers on campus by establishing
a standard set of devices
- Direct all hardcopy acquisition requests through a
single channel providing the best pricing on printers
Objective
The objective of the Printer Acquisition Program is to
insure the best possible pricing for University purchased
printing devices. Currently there are more than 125 different
types of printers deployed around campus*. Reducing the
variety of devices will significantly reduce support
and consumable costs and make it possible to create a
formalized refresh program for printers very similar
to the current PC refresh program. This program allows
for the removal of old or expensive equipment based on
a three, four, or five year refresh cycle, providing
departments with current printer technology conforming
to established University standards.
Action Plan
The Printer Acquisition Program will:
- limit the number of devices that departments have to
choose from, and standardize on a select few
- review current pricing from suppliers
- explore current discount programs, corporate partnerships,
and sponsorships
- establish a preferred channel for all future network
and desktop printers
- develop and deploy a streamlined ordering methodology
*Fact: there are
currently 1,806 full time employees including faculty and
staff: there are 2,319 print/copier devices on campus!
